However, I’d always felt passionate about working with or on behalf of vulnerable children, so after a couple of years started looking around for jobs in children’s charities. This meant I could apply for a policy role at Which?, working on education and health policy (Which? is a consumer charity as well as a magazine). I had to bite the bullet and take a big pay cut, but was lucky enough to get a job as a researcher for Which? Magazine which I did for 4 years, during which time I did a part time Masters in Public Policy and Management. I resigned from teaching with no job to go to, but knowing I could supply teach if necessary to make ends meet. I started my working life as a secondary teacher (which I loved) but after 4 years decided I wanted to see what other jobs existed beyond the world of education. ![]() The busy mompreneur has used that support wisely to venture out yet again with her latest endeavour, an Amazon best-selling book entitled Inspire Your Home: Easy Affordable Ideas to Make Every Room Glamorous, released in October of 2019.As part of our #UCLInspireMe series, Claire Lilley Head, Head of Child Safety Online, NSPCC talks to us about how she got his role and shares some tips for UCL students who want to get into the Charity sector. “As someone who’s a control freak, my brand is my baby, and it’s hard for me to let go, but being able to delegate and let others help out and do what they need to do to bring their best foot forward for the company is life-changing,” Merhi said. From her husband and children who support her every move to her parents who step in to take care of her little ones when work keeps her busy, Merhi noted that her at-home support system is solid. But her fears were unfounded because she quickly sold out, and every restock since then has flown off the shelves. The launch was a nerve-wracking process for Merhi, who worried about whether her followers would love the products. Four years after her first Instagram post, she decided it was time for the next big move. As her following grew, Merhi attracted partnerships from major brands like LG Electronics and Wayfair.
